Trans People Face Serious Discrimination

'We don't look after people like you.' Transgender people refused medical care

Trans people face discrimination from medical staff and potential employers and may feel they are powerless to speak up, according to a new study from La Trobe University.

According to the study, many Trans people have experienced discrimination from doctors, dentists and psychiatrists and are concerned about getting older and moving into aged care, which could impact their ability to remain 'out'.

The WA AIDS Council is committed to eliminating discrimination for HIV +, same sex attracted, intersex and gender diverse people moving into a stage in life where aged care becomes a necessity. To find out more about the Council's training opportunities for aged care facilities, please contact Training and Development Officer Reena D'Souza on 9482 0000 or via email
