Perth International Queer Film Festival 2016

9-15 September 2016 | The Backlot Studios, Perth


The Perth International Queer Film Festival celebrates all that is great about International Queer Cinema this September! Teaming with The Backlot Perth this will be a chance to see some amazing queer films from the USA, South Africa, The Netherlands and France. A fundraising initiative of the WA AIDS Council.

For all ticketholders, below is important information to ensure you have an enjoyable evening.

Important Event Information

Venue: The Backlot Studios 
Address: 21 Simpson Street, West Perth
Parking: There is ample street parking located in the area.

Movie start time: 7.30pm | The Backlot lounge will open from 6.30pm

Food and Beverages: There is a bar at the venue where you can purchase beverages and snacks. EFTPOS facilities are available. Strictly no BYO drinks or food.

On arrival Please have your ticket ready for cross checking with the door list. All guests must hold a valid ticket for entry. All film festival screenings are STRICTLY 18+. Photo ID may be requested on arrival.

Keep hold of your ticket for free entry into Connections and a glass of bubbles after each screening!

23 year old Jonathan sacrifices himself by taking care of his cancer-stricken father and works on the family farm with his aunt Martha. Looking after his father is an everyday struggle, one which never seems to end. When his father’s long lost friend Ron shows up, Jonathan’s father thrives. A long buried family secret puts the father-son relationship to an acid test. Jonathan slowly understands, that he has to find his own way and that loving also means being able to let go.

The protagonists are gay and lesbian, from all walks of life, whose intertwining tales present a humorous, inventive and dramatic take on contemporary life in South Africa. It is through the eyes and experiences of a cross-section of queers - black, white and coloured, cruisy singles, married couples with children, city and township dwellers, apartheid survivors and born frees, professionals and skollies - that we see the South African contemporary landscape unfold.
