If you identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer (LGBTQ), were born in the 1970s or 1990s and grew up in Perth or Albany we want you!
Researchers at The University of New South Wales, Deakin University, Monash University and The University of Western Australia are seeking volunteer research participants to learn about the experiences of two different groups of LGBTQ people growing up in Australia: those born in the 1970s and those born in the 1990s.
The research project is called Belonging and sexual citizenship among gender and sexual minority youth (Queer Generations)
Why is this research being undertaken?
This research is being done to learn more about the experiences of two different generations of gender and sexual minority youth growing up in Australia and the sources of support they found most useful. The reason we want to know about your experiences of growing up as a LGBTQ young person is to highlight the types of programs and support young people find useful in transitioning to adulthood.
Would the project be a good fit for me?
The study would be a good fit for you, if you:
- identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer (LGBTQ)
- were born in the 1970s or 1990s
- grew up in Perth or Albany
What would happen if I took part in the research project?
If you decide to take part, you may be invited to attend a Focus Group discussion (and possibly a follow-up interview) to talk about your experiences growing up LGBTQ, and the types of things that have been important to you. Focus groups will be held in both Perth and Albany in March/April (for those born in the 1970s) and August/September/October (for those born in the 1990s).
Will I be paid to take part in the research project?
You will be reimbursed with a $20 gift voucher as token recompense for your time and effort, and as a partial reimbursement of any local travel costs associated with the study.
